Early Colchester Carpenters and Furniture Makers
Felix Minor, a German immigrant carpenter and cabinet maker, came to Colchester in the 1840’s. He built the Eagle Hotel, the Presbyterian Manse and the Downsville Alliance Church Mr. Minor built many pieces of furniture in his shop, but mainly bedroom suites and secretaries with secret compartments. He was also an undertaker and made his own caskets. Much of the carpentry and woodworking in the Delaware County Courthouse was done by Mr. Minor.
Herm and Sherm Wilson operated a furniture and undertaking business in the Schlick building (now Poppy) in the late 1890’s. They built furniture and caskets in the back of the building and operated a furniture store in the front.
