Revolutionary War Veterans of Colchester
Saturday, November 1st, join Dr. Samantha Misa for a talk on the Revolutionary War veterans of Colchester. This talk will focus on the service records and lives of men who served in the American Revolution and have connections with the Colchester area. Dr. Misa will also discuss some of the interesting veteran burials in the town and events that occurred in the area around the time of the Revolution, including the Battle of Downs Brook. Free program and refreshments, Saturday, November 1, at 2 PM at Shinhopple Memorial Center, Trout Brook Road, Downsville, NY.

Roxbury Arts Grant—Creating Games and Crafts from the Past, a Family Fun Event
Mark your calendars for Saturday, September 21, 2024 from 11 AM-4 PM, Shinhopple
Memorial Center, 1406 Trout Brook Road. CHS will be hosting a Family Fun Event funded by a Roxbury Arts Grant. Participants will create stories, songs, games, and crafts that historically or traditionally have been played or crafted and incorporated in families’ leisure time. The project will provide opportunities for families, community members and tourist to work together to craft and create positive leisure activities, while learning the historical significance of these activities. Displays and heritage items from the Colchester Historical Society collection will be exhibited.
Some of the activities will be:
➢ A professional storyteller will help participants to Create stories based on a Colchester
landmark
➢ Creating silhouette pictures
➢ Making checker boards and checkers
➢ Sewing and fabricating sock dolls
➢ Making Kaleidoscopes
➢ Using ink and goose feather quill pens to create calligraphy drawings
➢ Candle dipping
➢ Assembling potpourri “sweet bag” sachets
➢ Designing postcards depicting visuals in Colchester or Delaware County
➢ Making colonial whirligig toy
➢ Games like marbles, tops, jacks
